Bono Mack: FCC Is Just Plain Wrong

Statement

Date: Dec. 21, 2010

Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA-45), the incoming Chairwoman on the Subcommittee of Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade within the House Energy and Commerce Committee, released the following statement upon the Federal Communications Committee's (FCC) move to regulate the Internet:

"I am deeply disappointed by the FCC Members who chose to support regulating the Internet and abandon free market principles. After years of discussion, legislation and bi-partisan congressional request asking the FCC not to regulate the Internet they plowed ahead anyway. It's clear that politics, not facts, matter most to the FCC. The decision by the FCC to regulate the Internet has zero to do with the people, free enterprise or job creation. It has everything to do with government power and elections. This is a perfect example of why the American people are tired of Washington."

This move by the FCC comes on the heels of Congresswoman Bono Mack introducing H. Res. 1775, which calls on the President and his Administration to oppose any effort to transfer control of the Internet to the United Nations or any other international governmental entity.
